On Sunday, September 5th, you will experience a colourful, picturesque and stunning marine show which will enliven Venice’s waters; the most amazing fact is that you will admire it from your gondola!
The origin of the Historical Parade
The origin of the “Historical parade” dates back to 1489 when Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus, abdicated and came back to her native land. For this historical reason the competition is preceded by a unique procession, the “Corteo Storico” – historical parade – remembering the entrance of the Queen into the city.
In this parade gondoliers in costumes sail in characteristic 16th century boats, following the Bucintoro which was the Doge’s state galley.
Scheduled program
Starting from 4:00 pm, parade along the Grand Canal by historical crafts with costumed crews, boats and gondolas of the Venetian rowing associations (Voga alla Veneta).
Course: St. Mark’s Bay, Grand Canal, Rialto and return along the Grand Canal until Ca’ Foscari
