church<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.venicecitytours.it\/en\/island-of-venice\/torcello-the-byzantine-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Torcello<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is dedicated to\u00a0<strong>Santa Fosca<\/strong>; the story took place in the\u00a0<strong>early middle-ages<\/strong>, when\u00a0<strong>Fosca<\/strong>, originally from the\u00a0<strong>Middle-East<\/strong>, converted to\u00a0<strong>Christianity<\/strong>\u00a0along with her maid; after the\u00a0<strong>baptism<\/strong>\u00a0they were hunted down until they decided to face their trial; they were tortured, decapitated and their bodies thrown in the sea. A group of\u00a0<strong>fishermen<\/strong>, moved by the death of such young girls, managed to fish out the bodies, and took them to modern\u00a0<strong>Tripoli<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Libya<\/strong>; the\u00a0<strong>body<\/strong>\u00a0arrived here in\u00a0<strong>Torcello<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>10th century<\/strong>, when the\u00a0<strong>church<\/strong>\u00a0was built.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da72d62 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"da72d62\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-acbfcc4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"acbfcc4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab704c7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ab704c7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The\u00a0<strong>Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0<strong>oldest religious building<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>Venice area<\/strong>. Initially built in\u00a0<strong>639 A.D.<\/strong>,\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>cathedral<\/strong>\u00a0is a testimony to the meeting of\u00a0<strong>Western<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Eastern cultures and artistic styles<\/strong>. The\u00a0<strong>gothic structure<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0<strong>Byzantine<\/strong>\u00a0in style, as displayed by the splendid\u00a0<strong>golden mosaics<\/strong>\u00a0inside. The whole construction is centred around the figure of the\u00a0<strong>Virgin Mary,<\/strong>\u00a0who awaits surrounded by bright shimmering light those who enter into the initial darkness of the church. The slender tall\u00a0<strong>belltower<\/strong>\u00a0is still a crucial reference point for anyone in the\u00a0<strong>lagoon<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
