Miracoli<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0<strong>Church of Miracles<\/strong>. The story of how it was first built is interesting, if not wholly true. A\u00a0nobleman in the\u00a0<strong>early 1400\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0had a fresco of the\u00a0<strong>Madonna<\/strong>\u00a0painted in a nearby calle, which soon became the object of adoration by the inhabitants of the area. Soon after, a woman had been attacked by her husband with a knife, but she invoked the Madonna so loudly that the stabbing had no effect and she survived without a scar.<\/p><p>To this, followed so many other miracles in the area, that soon the image was moved to a\u00a0<strong>chapel<\/strong>\u00a0built in honour of the\u00a0<strong>Holy Mary<\/strong>; given the affluence of paying miracle-seekers, this chapel soon became the richly-coloured church we see today. The high number of external pillars creates the optical illusion that each side is actually longer than it really is. And here\u2019s a teaser: The\u00a0<strong>Miracoli<\/strong>\u00a0is one of only two churches in\u00a0<strong>Venice<\/strong>\u00a0which is free on all four sides, we\u2019ll let you discover the one in your own time.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da72d62 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"da72d62\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-acbfcc4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"acbfcc4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Scuola Grande di San Marco<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab704c7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ab704c7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Between the bridge and the\u00a0<strong>Church of San Giovanni e Paolo<\/strong>\u00a0is a beautiful\u00a0<strong>Renaissance fa\u00e7ade<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0<strong>Scuola\u00a0Grande di San Marco<\/strong>, which\u00a0<strong>Ruskin<\/strong>\u00a0called \u2018the most refined building in Venice\u2019. The choice of bright marbles, spotted with porfiry red medallions, give a sense of serenity and calm; the whole feel is in contrast with the monochrome somber colour of the brick-fa\u00e7ade of the Church next to it.<\/p><p>There were once\u00a0<strong>seven Scuole Grandi<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>Large<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Schools<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in\u00a0<strong>Venice<\/strong>, this one being perhaps the most prosperous and decorated. It was in essence a brotherhood institution, where painters, sculptors and artists of all kinds produced some of their finest works, that still today adorne the interior.<\/p><p>In\u00a0<strong>1806<\/strong>, however,\u00a0<strong>Napoleon<\/strong>\u00a0closed all the\u00a0<strong>Scuole<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Venice<\/strong>, using them for all sorts of different functions. Nowadays, the\u00a0<strong>Scuola di San Marco<\/strong>\u00a0is home to Venice\u2019s main hospital, which stretches all the way back to the lagoon and is certainly the most beautiful hospital any patient could wish to be in.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-76357dc elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"76357dc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div
